JOAQUIM AND THE TEAM
THE SOUL OF CASTANYA DE VILADRAU
More than 20 years beating to the rhythm of the Montseny: we care for the forests and the culture of our chestnut.
20 YEARS OF HANDS IN THE SOIL AND RESPECT FOR THE MONTSENY
Leading the project is Joaquim, a passionate man with more than 20 years of experience working among chestnut trees. For him, the Montseny Natural Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve, is not just a backdrop, but a territory with which he holds an almost spiritual connection.
As he likes to say: "This isn't a factory; it's my own backyard." This artisan, honest outlook is what guides the whole team in the mission of preserving an environment that is unique in the world.
100 % CATALAN: WE LOVE OUR CULTURE
We are a 100 % Catalan project, rooted in the land and proud of our identity. We love our culture and understand that the chestnut is far more than a fruit: it is a symbol of our history.
The castanyades are part of our DNA, a ritual that brings us together as a people around the fire in autumn. That's why our work is a form of cultural commitment: we want the chestnut tradition to remain alive, strong and with the prestige it deserves as living heritage of Catalonia.
SOCIAL ENGINE AND COMMITMENT TO THE TERRITORY
We believe in a circular economy that starts at home. Castanya de Viladrau creates work for people in the area, generating job opportunities in the Montseny and encouraging collaborations with local artisans.
We are a team that cares for people as much as it cares for trees, driving a human-centred model where knowledge is passed down from generation to generation.
RECOVERING THE CHESTNUT TREES OF THE MONTSENY: HERITAGE AND SUSTAINABILITY IN VILADRAU
The chestnut trees of the Montseny are living witnesses of our history that had been left forgotten, becoming vulnerable through neglect. At Castanya de Viladrau we decided to change that fate through the active recovery of century-old estates.
By clearing the undergrowth, we bring light back to trees that had stopped breathing, acting as guardians of their well-being. This management is vital for fire prevention, since a well-cared-for forest helps reduce fire risk. What's more, a healthy chestnut tree fights climate change by absorbing CO2 and preserving soil moisture. In this way, hands and nature come together to restore the balance of our whole ecosystem.
